What is Polycotton?
Polycotton is the most popular fabric for bed linen. It is made by combining strands of natural Cotton and synthetic Polyester. It’s advantage over cotton is that it retains the coolness and lightness of the cotton fibre, but also adds the strength, durability and wrinkle-resistance of polyester. It can also be dyed easily.
Cotton is made from the pod of a cotton plant. It is light, cool, comfortable and absorbent but does not take dye easily. Cotton may be combed before being spun into thread; fine brushes are used to pull out any impurities, along with short cotton fibres. Combing the cotton means that the cotton will not “bobble” over time. (Photo courtesy of Scotan.)
Polyester is a strong fibre that keeps its shape and therefore resists wrinkling. It also takes dye easily.
Polycotton fabrics may be termed Percale. The term describes the weave of the fabric, not its content, so percale could be a blend of 50% cotton and 50% polyester, 100% cotton, or a blend of other fabrics in any ratio. A percale weave has a thread count of 180 or higher. Thread count is a measure of the coarseness or fineness of fabric. It is measured by counting the number of threads contained in one square inch of fabric, including both the length (warp) and width (weft) threads.
Polycotton may have cotton and polyester combined in any combination. We use Polycotton which is 50% cotton, 50% polyester, 200 thread count Percale and made from Combed Cotton.
We Like CLs
We stayed at a beautiful little CL while exhibiting at the Sledmere House National Caravan Club Rally over Spring Bank Holiday. Pear Tree House, in the tiny village of Helperthorpe, overlooks the rolling Yorkshire Wolds.

It had everything that we needed, electricity, water, very clean toilet and emptying point and very helpful owners, Mr & Mrs Startup. If you fancy a break, it is conveniently located for the seaside resorts of Bridlington, Filey and Scarborough and the rugged North Yorkshire Moors.
Just one warning, if you need more than 5 TV channels and a constant mobile signal, it might not be for you! (Analogue TV only.)
If you are a Caravan Club member, you can find details on the Caravan Club website.
